In New Zealand, around 170 people die each year from asbestos-related diseases. Although the importation of asbestos products was finally banned in 2016, asbestos is still common in buildings and machinery. If you work in the construction, maintenance or manufacturing industries you are likely to come into contact with asbestos in the workplace.
